Pulmonerias (Lungworts) - “Must-have” plants! Practically evergreen foliage lasts through Dec. here in zone 5b and is back up with flowers in early spring (here, April) lasting up to 6 weeks.  They are usually 5 to 8 inches high and self seed sparingly to form a nice colony.  Some Pulmonarias grow beautifully in full sun with moisture retentive soil, but all can grow in part or full shade.  They make striking accents in the garden and, to my mind, are indispensible in the shade garden.   Cut flowering stems off after bloom for the best look.  Hardy in zones 4 through 8.

Tiarella (Foam Flowers) - Becoming very popular for several reasons: they grow well in shade, are evergreen or almost evergreen, and are hardy from zones 4-9. New hybrids are being introduced with spectacular foliage patterns. They have attractive flowers in early spring and many repeat bloom. More interestingly, though, is that most provide striking foliage texture that make these plants worth growing. Most varieties are clumpers. Runners are noted.
