HOSTAS
HOSTAPEDIA by Mark Zillis 9 inch by 12 inch 1,128 pages 1900 color pictures $79.95 plus shipping Over 7,400 Hostas described. The "Gold Standard" of Hosta Books!
The most popular perennial in the United States and the world today – and justly so, for several reasons. They are almost indestructible and they multiply into large clumps that can be divided easily. They come in a wide variety of sizes from as little as 1-2” up to 3’ tall and 6’ wide. There are thousands of varieties from blues, greens, and golds to beautifully variegated forms. Many have beautiful and very fragrant flowers. Finally, they grow in the shade, 1/3 to 2/3 sun, and some can even grow in full sun in humus rich soil. Many people grow them in pots and display them on patios, decks, stairs, walkways, etc. as well as in the garden. They are incredibly hardy and can be grown from zones 4-9.
|
We have added many small and mini/dwarf hostas because many people prefer them to use in troughs, mixed pots, smaller gardens and even to plant between large hostas for textural contrast and borders. Because of their small size, you can better enjoy their total conformation. If you use them mixed with larger hostas, give them enough space to ‘shine’ and not be deprived of light by larger plants. |

HTORCHI............................small plants $10.00 1 yr. old $15.00
H. ’Touch of Class’
p.p.a.f. (medium) You know it’s
a winner when they patent it. A tetraploid sport of ‘June.’ Emerges in
spring with intense blue leaves with a gold flame pattern in the center of
the leaf. Where the gold and blue overlap, a green pattern occurs. Leaves
have an incredibly thick, slug-proof substance and are more upright than ‘June.’
A surefire classic.

At my youngest daughter’s wedding there were about 20 tall, 30” round tables. In the center of each table, she placed a hosta leaf with a votive candle in clear colored holders and some blue and green clear glass orbs scattered around the candle. This made a very attractive center piece.
